Science Discoveries in Context

Featured

In writing up how young people take for granted recent discoveries and inventions, I collected some to help understand how almost everything in our world is under 200 years old. We are just beginning to understand the world around us and beyond.
It was only seven years from discovering that nuclear reactions can occur until the first nuclear explosion. We take it for granted that we can get DNA testing done, but that was first done in 1986.

Late Twentieth Century Culture and Technology

UPDATED 1/27/2024

This essay is being expanded into a book, so I have stopped updating this post. I’m leaving this draft as a tease…
I was inspired to capture personal observations and first hand accounts of some culture and technology changes from the 1950s to the 1990s. It has grown from a few pages to over 30! The topics covered include: Smoking, Gasoline, Socialization, Race and Religion, LGBT Issues, Telephones, Radio, Ham, and CB, Television, Games, Photography, Bicycles, Aviation, Music, Money, Calculators, Typing, Computers, Networking and The Internet, Computer CPU Technology, Computer Hard Drives, Motherboards and Buses.

Golf Introduction

Golf assumes you know a lot about it, there’s a lot of assumed knowledge. I’ve seen many people who are interested in golf but don’t know where to begin. That inspired this document, which does NOT try to teach how to swing a golf club or plan your strategy for a hole, but instead is the basic terminology everyone should know to get started.

This table covers everything from formation of the planet, creation of continents, first life forms, human evolution, ancient civilizations, technologies (tools, metal ages), domestication of animals, legal foundations, famous/infamous rulers, astronomy, natural disasters, sports, and world population trends.

Common Flaws in Social Media Posts

After following several politicians on Twitter and Facebook, I got tired of pointing out the same flaws in their arguments or rants or conspiracy theories.

I assembled a collective response to the common flaws in a 15-page document, with over 90 references to show I’m not just making stuff up.

Enjoy!
